    Code of Conduct Visitors

The following guidelines ensure appropriate care and interactions for everyone at our school.

Volunteer helpers, contractors and visitors operate according to the following guidelines:

    1. Teachers are responsible for the programs operating within the classroom and/or school.
    2. Teachers have the ultimate responsibility for students under their care for the duration of their time at school.
    3. Physical contact is not to be used for any discipline purpose. Only in the case where you need to act for the safety of a child should physical contact be used. Be very cautious with any other physical contact with students, including sports, and with distressed students. Consider your size, your familiarity with the student, and how your actions may be perceived.
    4. Avoid being in a situation where you are alone in an enclosed space with a single child. Strategies include keeping the door open or seeing several students at once.
    5. Any materials or behaviour of a sexually explicit nature, or that could be construed as grooming behaviour, is not acceptable and will be reported to authorities.
    6. Please treat your own children in the same manner as all other students.
    7. If your role involves supervision of students - you must keep in close contact with all students under your care - you should be able to see each of them clearly from where you are positioned.
    8. Be careful with the language you use with students. This includes the use of critical or demeaning comments. Find ways to encourage students. Correct students gently and without emotion. Swearing or blaspheming is not acceptable in the school context.
    9. Treat any information you acquire about the students as strictly CONFIDENTIAL. If you have a concern or complaint, please talk to the relevant staff member or executive member in a private setting after the event, or through the Feedback Form on our website.
    10. Please wear appropriate clothing that reflects modesty and safety, especially noting the Sun Smart guidelines.
    11. Do not share food with children due to the potential for allergic reactions
    12. Volunteer helpers, contractors and visitors are not to use the same toilets as students. There are toilets for visitors in the admin building.
    13. Report any safety concerns or injuries to a member of staff. Should an accident occur then an Accident Report needs to be completed and may require a statement from you if you were a direct witness.
    14. Volunteer helpers, contractors and visitors must sign in and out at the school office and wear a visitor sticker as identification whilst on school grounds.
    15. While at the School, be supportive of the School's Statement of Faith, reinforcing the principles taught at the School.
    16. A breach of these guidelines may result in exclusion from assisting in the school for a period of time or indefinitely.
